Begin Your Writing Year with Intention
Writers, it’s January 2026. Crazy!

While the rest of the world is shouting about goals and resolutions, vision boards and productivity hacks, here at Technica Editorial, we like to begin the year a little differently.

We like to ask a single question:

What kind of writing year do you want this to be?

We’re not talking about having a perfect year, and not even the most productive year.

We like to think about it as a year that feels aligned, encouraging, and most of all, sustainable.

What Are You Carrying with You into 2026?

Before we charge ahead, let’s pause for a moment. This isn’t about having a full year plan right now. You also don’t need a word count calendar or a perfectly color-coded editorial tracker.

What you do need is a sense of where you are and what you’re bringing with you into the new year.

We encourage you to ask yourself the following questions:

• What writing projects or story ideas are pulling at you?
• What habits or systems worked for you in 2025, and what didn’t? (Check out the link for our resource Your Roadmap to the Year Ahead)
• What do you want to feel more of in your writing life this year?

Now, keep in mind, you don’t need to have all the answers right now! Just ask the questions. That is a solid first step.

A Few Resources to Get You Grounded

If you’re looking for support as you ease into the new year, here’s what we’ve got waiting for you:

Bourbon & Books: Planning & Productivity for Authors

Short, honest videos on sustainable writing habits, batching content, author marketing, and building momentum.

Let’s Talk About Momentum

Here’s a mindset the Technica Editorial team is leaning into this year: You don’t need big goals; you need clear intention and consistent momentum.

Momentum means

• Showing up, even when it’s not perfect
• Writing the next scene, even when it’s messy
• Protecting your creative space and time without apology
• Trusting that even a little bit of progress is still real progress

Whether you’re planning to draft something new, revise a long-suffering manuscript, write “The End,” or finally press “Publish,” remember:

The year doesn’t need to start fast. It just needs to start honestly.

One Last Thought

Your writing life belongs to you, and you alone. It’s not about competing with others and their process. You get to design it. You get to change it. You get to shape it into something that fits you

So wherever you’re starting from this January, whether it’s page one, chapter fifteen, mid-brainstorm, or something else, we are right here in your corner.

Cheers to a wonderful 2026!

Breaking Through Writer’s Block After the Holidays

After weeks of festivities and disrupted routines, getting back to writing can feel overwhelming. The good news? Momentum starts with small steps.

Quick Strategies to Regain Flow

Start Small: Try 10 minutes of freewriting or journaling to warm up your creativity.

Set One Goal: Focus on a single, achievable target—like drafting one chapter or revising a short story.

Create a Ritual: A cozy writing nook, a new playlist, or your favorite beverage can signal to your brain that it’s time to write.

Celebrate Progress: Small wins matter. Progress, not perfection, is the goal.

Stop. Read. Upload. Five Essential Manuscript Checks
Before You Click "Publish"

1. Have you had your manuscript professionally edited (developmental, copyediting, line editing) as needed for your budget and goals?

2. Has a professional proofreader (or multiple highly skilled proofreaders) done a final pass for typos, grammatical errors, and punctuation mistakes?

3. Have you performed your own final read-through – ideally aloud or using text-to-speech – to catch any remaining awkward phrasing or errors?

4. Are character names, spellings, and descriptions consistent throughout the book?

5. Are timelines, locations, and factual details accurate and consistent?

Self-Publishing Trends for 2026: Uncovering the Future
By Arlene Furman

As we move into 2026, self-publishing is continuing to grow and evolve. Changing reader preferences are transforming the ways in which books are published, marketed, monetized, and consumed. From unique printed edges and interactive formats to innovative tools like augmented reality (AR), independent authors have more opportunities than ever to stand out and differentiate themselves. Those who embrace these trends are not only staying in tune with what readers want but are also actively shaping the future of publishing.
