Mini Workshop: Launching a Journal–From Vision to Publication
Launching a journal sounds exciting in theory, but how do you actually go from first idea to established publication? This practical session will appeal to attendees from organizations of all sizes, both for-profit and non-profit, with particular attention given to small-to-medium organizations that are deciding whether to self-publish, partner with vendors, or partner publish via a larger publishing organization. The session will also provide key insights for vendors working in these areas. Topics covered will include 1) defining your vision, scope, and goals; 2) operations and finances; 3) selecting an editorial team and building community; and 4) workflows and technology solutions.
Attendees will be provided with a detailed checklist of key considerations to cover when planning your own journal launch, covering technology, finances, staffing and editorial leadership, and community-building.
